Ye Olde Adventure

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there!

Ye Olde Adventure to the Realm of Best Buy

…And so the Fellowship of the Tablet departed on their curious journey. They were tasked with acquiring the One iPad, sleek and fine. Their black steed raced towards the realm of which they assumed would hold the wonder and power that is the One iPad.

Best Buy’s massive glass gates opened before them, permitting them entrance into its lord’s castle. They passed many sparkling objects of interest and want, but their goal was one: the iPad, sleek and fine. Weaving their way through the castle’s labyrinth, they came upon the tablet sitting on a white table.

“Behold! The One iPad. It will soon be ours!” It glimmered with a glow that was unnatural, yet welcoming.  The castle’s torch lights flickered, and all went dark. A soft murmur filled the air as the castle’s blue cloaked stewards bustled about.

“Ye must go to the castle’s gates, Citizens,” said a blue cloaked man with a red beard. The Fellowship followed him as the castle’s patrons gathered at the gates. It was much safer there, for an invisible force was at play. The castle’s wizards were hard at work.

“No task is ever simple,” whispered I. The torches flickered, slowly lighting their magical fires of neon and silver. Cheers erupted from the blue cloaked stewards. All was safe, and all was sound. The wizards had been successful.

The Fellowship headed back to the One, and a blue cloak was swift to aid them in their task, but alas! The glowing tablet they had thought to be the One was but a display. The real One had been stored away behind lock and key! On the steward went, his beautiful cloak trailing behind him, to fetch the One.

“I bring ill tidings,” he said when he returned, his cloak hanging about his shoulders like a drooping drape. “I searched high and low. It appears that the One has departed from here.”

“It seems our journey has just began,” said I.

…Because I couldn’t think of anything else to write about, I might as well make an adventure out of something mundane! One day I’ll own an iPad…One day. On that day the power won’t go out, and they will have a full stock of them!

The Zoron Times

Wendy Jones has taken over Mr. Burple Berry’s twitter feed! The first episode of her serial, The Case of the Alien Caper, was posted on Friday, and here’s the scoop:

Burple Berry was minding his own business, tumbling, bumbling, and mumbling in grassy knoll. A flutter of green and purple striped butterflies jetted out from a funny looking rose bush with drooping limbs.

“Gold! Gold! Gold!” came a high pitched shrill. Burple rolled to a savvy stop and turned to examine the commotion.  The leaves hissed when the bush gave a sudden shake.

Missing Aliens and Busy Me

Sometimes life gets the best of you, and you become busier than a buzzing, bumbling bumble bee! I missed last week’s update. Mr. Burple Berry has all but disappeared. It took a stubborn reporter to track the little alien down. Scroll to the end of this post for details!

Today’s blog is based on a prompt by @journalprompts.
“Four objects that represent you.”

  1. Any writing utensil – I think this is the most obvious object. I love to draw, and I’m addicted to writing. When I can’t find a pen or pencil, a crayon will do!
  2. Computers – I’ve been spending more time on computers than I should since 1999! They are a huge part of my free time and an endless source of entertainment. You can’t beat an object that allows you to research, to write, to draw, and to play games.
  3. Trees – I love the outdoors. I know this is cliché, but it’s the truth.
  4. Books – I can’t keep my nose out of them, and I’ll always be writing them.

It turns out that our favorite alien has gone missing! Don’t miss Wendy Jones’s story. You can catch it every Friday at @BurpleOfZoron on Twitter!

The Name of the Place…

…Rivendell 5!
Ever since I watched The Hobbit, I’ve had a case of LordoftheRingsitis.

Symptoms of LordoftheRingsitis include daydreaming about elves, dwarves, and/or hobbits, bringing up Middle Earth in as many conversations as possible, the constant doodling, drabbling, and babbling of things related to Lord of the Rings, and making LotR themed blog posts.

Causes: reading the books, watching the movies, and/or catching a glimpse of anything involving LotR.

Cure: at this time, there is none. If you contract LordoftheRingsitis, the best way to cope is to get a piece of it out of your system (see below sample).

Rivendell 5
A crossover of Babylon 5 and Lord of the Rings
Babylon 5 was created by J. Michael Straczynski
Lord of the Rings was created by J. R. R. Tolkien
I’ve been meaning to update my blog’s banner and background, so I figured today would be a good day to go ahead and do that! It coincides with the Sci-Fi theme of Rivendell 5. The untitled novel I’m working on is also Sci-Fi, so why not throw a huge Sci-Fi blog fest? I’m still in the process of revising it. I took Monday of last week off just to squeeze some time in. Revising and editing on the back of a full time job is not easy!

The Burpleberry Newsstand

Mr. Burple Berry is off dreaming somewhere. Last week’s #FictionFriday followed the the theme,
“Purple unicorns, sparkling kittens, and ninja eagles…The alarm didn’t go off!  She was late for class and missed a pop quiz. Study time.”
The wingless ding is thinking about doing next week’s #FictionFriday on the fly!

Springtime in Rivendell

I made my own prompt this week…I couldn’t help myself. The weather here is finally showing the warm, comforting signs of Spring. I can finally shed my pants for skirts, walk barefoot in the grass, and hang out in the house without layers and layers of hoodies and blankets. I have a hard time deciding if I like Spring most, or if I like Fall. Both seasons are mild and full of color.

There’s just something fun about the friendly swish of my skirt against my calves as I take a stroll…and I fully admit that I sometimes walk into my backyard and pretend that it’s really Rivendell. There are dozens (if not hundreds) of birds where I live. They are particularly chipper and active in the Spring, which adds to the entire setting.

It sure is a bummer being cooped up indoors during the week, but daydreaming and wandering around doesn’t exactly earn one money (as much as I’d like to find a job doing just that!).  I’m Romanticizing the season, I know! There are stormy days and rainy nights that crop up too…but this is where the Internet comes in, and even through all the slush, it allows us to travel (in a virtual manner) to different worlds.

Don’t be afraid to seize the moment, run around barefoot, and pretend you’re somewhere else. You are never too old to daydream.

The Burpleberry Newsstand

Mr. Burple Berry got mixed up in a pair of high heels. Aside from a bruised ego and a little bump on his head, he is otherwise fine. He wobbled in to dazzle us with next week’s prompt, dream.

Last week’s story:
Shoes

She wobbles downtown, teetering along. “On sale! Only 4 left!” the sign read. A size too small, and an inch too high, the red heels sparkle.

Coming Up Blank

Not even twitter prompts could jar my muse into action today! I think I know the source of my current, listless state of being. There are some nights when my mind doesn’t know when to shut itself off. I’ll lay there for hours while my busy-body brain chatters about anything and everything. When I do fall asleep, I always wake up an hour or two later, and my mind will start jabbering away all over again.

My mind decided that last night would be the optimal time for it to figure out what type of person I’d be in Middle Earth (I had just finished watching The Hobbit, the new one). I guess determining that I’d be part elf was serious business and had to be decided then and there. Rivendell is such a lovely place. So, to sum this craziness up, I’m really tired right now.

I finished that neon green/black preview sketch I had posted two weeks ago:

Ice?
More Babylon 5 fan art (as if I don’t draw enough!)

The Burpleberry Newsstand

Mr. Burple Berry was kind enough to stop by and drop off next week’s #FictionFriday prompt, shoes.

Last week’s story:
“The contestant smiles at the crowd with a perfect smile.  She grabs the mic for a song. The melody corkscrews into a belch. Last place.”
