Post A Day Roundup!

Day 30, and this means my Post A Day challenge has finally come to an end. I did a lot better than I thought I would: 25 out of 30 posts! I’ve posted my thoughts, feelings, and rodeo roundup of the challenge.

It was certainly a challenge to post every day. I work a full time job, and when I get home, I’m not always wide eyed, bushy tailed, and full of creativity. There’s also the fact that I have other things I need to get done–that is not to say that I don’t like blogging! I do. I enjoy it!

Tripping Over Hurdles
The initial hurdle for me was to find things to write about. If you go back to the beginning of the month, you’ll see that I was using writing/blogging prompts. As the days went on, and the more I posted, I found that it was easier to come up with things on my own.

The second hurdle was actually posting every day.  When the creativity wasn’t there, I  had to fight the lazy urges within. On those days, I tended to post a lot of pictures and, in one case, videos. As I stated above, I missed five days. There is a strong correlation to exhaustion and not writing (at least for me). My blog and my characters do not want to meet an exhausted me. Trust me on this. *wink*

I felt terribly guilty for the days I missed…you can also trust me on that!

Tick, Tick, Tock!
One of the things I noticed was that I neglected a few of my other nightly rituals in order to make sure I stuck to my guns about posting. My nightly rituals include drawing, creating photo manipulations in photoshop, and other stuff that I’m too lazy to think of and write on the spot like this. 😛 The two that were most effected were the two I just mentioned.

Want to see some of my photomanips? Here you go! They are all Babylon 5 related (naturally):

The Cliche “What Did I Learn?” Part
I love blogging, but I don’t want to do it every day (if I had a little bonsai tree that was a never ending source of blooming money so that I didn’t have to work, it would be different!).

I want to blog more often than I used to. My initial plan is to do it at least two or three times a week; that way I am posting a lot, but not to the point where I feel overworked and that my posts lack substance. …Not only that, but I missed doing my photomanips and random sketches.

These Shoes Were Made for Walking

Day 2 of my Post-A-Day challenge! It also happens to be my birthday. How did I celebrate? The same way I celebrated Labor Day: I went to work. The excitement ensues! I’ll wait until my next day off to go super sleuthing for a proper celebration.

Day 2: Post your favorite shoes.
I found a Post-A-Day prompt for September on Pinterest (there is much more to that site than food and Mrs. Cleaver’s favorite picks). Here is a link to the pin: Pin me!

These shoes go with everything, and I’ve had them since 2009. I will wear them until they fall apart. My last pair of casual shoes died at the ripe age of 9. As I was walking across a busy street, they issued a ripping slurp, and before I knew it, the soles had separated from the rest of the shoe. The leather sides immediately followed suit.

It was a strange waddle that got me the rest of the way across. I must have looked like a penguin. Fortunetely there was a mom and pop shoe store in the shopping center I was heading towards. They also happened to be running a huge sale.

~ And thus my favorite shoes.

Inspiration Station

Happy Labor Day, everyone! I had to work, but that’s okay. They paid us extra. I can’t believe that it’s September already. I know this is cliche to say, but this year has flown by. I decided to challenge myself into writing one post per day (we shall see if I bit off more than I can chew…only September will tell).

Day 1: Post something that inspires you.

I thought a lot about this one and finally decided that works of fiction, whether they be books, television shows, or movies, are what inspire me the most. For those of you who follow my blog on a regular basis, you see how much fan art I draw! From Star Trek to Babylon 5 to Lord of the Rings, if I am fond of it in any way, shape, or form, I start drawing.

Writing is a little different, but I would by lying if I said I never wrote any fan fiction whatsoever. I used to live for that stuff. Creating tales that involved my favorite characters was how I discovered that I loved to write. Those early stories that teenager me wrote were…eh, well I said “teenager me,” so that should shed some light on quality! It’s the fond memories that count and the fact that those stories exercised my creativity.

It’s been ages since I’ve written any fan fiction, but that was my own decision. If you like writing it, let your inner muse fly and go for it!

~Here’s to hoping I stick to my September plan.
Cheers!

Return to Tomorrow: September

I’m trudging through a nasty cold right now, but the rest of this month has been fabulous.

Disclaimer for the Babylon 5 fan art: Babylon 5 (c) J. Michael Straczynski. I did not create that universe, and nor do I own it.

Remember this? I completed the digital version!

I’m always striving to improve my skills, so here is the sketch version of something that I will digitalize in October.

Books read
8/3 – I finally completed All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque. It was an emotional book. There were instances where I had to put it down for weeks at a time. It was an excellent book, five stars. A warning: it is a heartbreaking read.
