Welcome to 2021!

I updated the look of a few things and hid some Easter eggs in Club High Castle for everyone šŸ˜‰ Expect more Easter eggs and things in the future! http://blog.mlcartthings.me/ #HighCastle

Letā€™s dive right in, shall we? My one goal for 2020 was to start writing again, and considering I could barely force a sentence out between 2018 and 2019, mission accomplished. It took me a few months to write more than just a few words, but I did it! Next step is to actually finish a novel.

2021 goals

Drawing – 2020 put a damper on my art. Ask me one year ago today how I thought 2020 would go, and COVID-19 was not it. I made 90 posts on Instagram (which means roughly 90 pieces of art) compared to over 200 in 2019.Ā It’s time to change that.

I have some awesome ideas for this year! Grasshoppers, keep your eyes peeled because I have AN EPIC HIGH CASTLE project in the works.Ā

Work Out – Hear me out! Donā€™t roll your eyes just yet! Iā€™ll have you know that this is the first time Iā€™ve ever listed this as a goal. Iā€™m not going to kid myself with this one because there is a slim chance Iā€™ll do it, but I want to at least try.Ā Little did I realize that I got 90% of my physical activity done at work …and I type this as I feel like Iā€™m coming down with a cold (physical activity is the last thing I want to do right now).Ā

WWII French Resistance –Ā  Iā€™ve wanted to get into reenacting for some time, and a friend on Instagram suggested I do the French resistance. This idea is PERFECT for me. It leaves a lot of room for creativity and ingenuity, and besides, I might do a few in a certain, alt world šŸ˜‰

Homemade armband! More to come.

Finish Alice (or Metropolis) – Now that Iā€™ve finally been able to crack open my creative mind again, I want to finish something. However, writing a story in recent years has become a trip through a proverbial minefield, lest someone rake you through the coals for an excerpt taken out of context (that was part of my problem in 2018 and 2019). You can write all the disclaimers in the world, but it can still happen (and why do we even have to write them now? It used to be a given: Bad things happen in fiction, and we know the author obviously doesnā€™t support them.).Ā As long as I put that out of my mind, the creativity will flow.

December Reflections

We are in the second half of December, where the new year is glimmering just beyond the horizon. Christmas is almost here, and so is the season of setting new goals and striving to reach new heights–I realize I just sounded like a commercial for a gym membership, but hey, ā€˜tis the season!

I like to look back at my previous goals and see if I remembered what I wrote and if I accomplished what I had set out to do. Letā€™s take a look at December 2017.

My goal for 2018 is to finallyā€”once and for allā€”to crack out of my shy Internet-self shell! Iā€™m not a Marvel character with a quick, witty quip for every occasion. Iā€™m not the most hyper active conversationalist, especially on the fast-paced platform that is Twitter (home of High Castle happenings).

Wellā€¦I definitely forgot I wrote that, ha ha! My how things have changed! Mission accomplished? I feel like this is an ancient fear I had back in the Beforetimes or something. The key to this endeavor was not giving a fuck. Thatā€™s it. I stopped stressing out over sounding ā€œbuzz worthy.ā€ Trying to sound like someone else just because they get thousands of likes and follows is not the way to go. Trust me.

Let’s look at the short list of goals I made in 2017.

1. Taking my art to new levels

Iā€™d say I improved a lot! I never thought in a million years Iā€™d do realism. This is all thanks to the wonderful friends Iā€™ve made via The Man in the High Castle and the amazing people who have worked on the show. You give me so much motivation to continue creating art! THANK YOU. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

2. Getting my novel, Sisters, polished and ready to publish

I am slowly getting there. 2018 made certain themes difficult.

3. Creating more black and white photo aesthetics

I forgot about this one, and I think this morphed into pencil sketches.

Okay, so now thatā€™s out of the way, what do I want to do in 2019?

I refuse to give up on Sisters just because of ā€œthe times.ā€ I suppose this is my next fear to get over. I mean if someone doesnā€™t read the disclaimers I have plastered everywhere, then that is their problem. I don’t say this to be mean, but there is a frightening, growing trend of glossing over disclaimers, letters from the author, and wanting to ban books that may have something controversial in them. I’m going to be honest: this trend scared me away from Sisters for a time (no matter how fierce my disclaimer was or how Ann and Kathy began to question their environment, I was still terrified of moving forward). I ended up hiring a professional beta reader, and I’m glad I did! They gave me excellent, well written feedback that Iā€™m going to use to improve the story.

Continue to improve my art!

Maybe make art/peg dolls a side gig and start selling it? I am giving this some serious thought!

Continue to fight my inner shyness. This has always been a struggle for me. Iā€™ve lost count the number of times I didnā€™t get credit for something due to my inherent inclination to say nothing because people are scary (lol!). I made huge strides this year, especially at work (where it counts!) and want to continue this.

Hereā€™s to hoping 2019 is a year of joy, progress, and peace!

What do you want to accomplish in 2019?

My Goals Involve No.

Day 7: Post your goals.
I’ll be honest. I am feeling under the weather. I haven’t felt this sick in a long time. The only goals I have right now involve not moving, getting up, or being productive. On that note, here is an astronaut in space!

Tonight will consist of Netflix, some sort of video game, and keeping tabs on football. I’m not a huge fan of being sick, and my mood right now is absolutely delightful! I’m glad yesterday’s prompt was…yesterday’s!
