Return to Tomorrow: February

I am glad February is finally over! To say that this month has been stressful, would be a severe understatement. Well, it’s onto month number three, March. Here’s to hoping that it turns out to be a great month!

So far, my New Years resolutions are holding up. A look at February’s projects:

Tensor, said the Tensor – posted on the 15th

“Life Tree”
9 in x 12 in || 1.5 hours || pencil

This was done for a friend at work. My cameras did not want to take pictures of this for some reason and kept running out of batteries. I kid thee not! I was lucky that this picture made it into my old camera before the batteries went out!

I’m happy to say that my coworker loved it! It always feels good to know that someone enjoys your art!

Books read in 2011: 1/3
I’m currently working my way through The Watchers Out of Time by H.P. Lovecraft and August Derleth (it’s a collection of short stories).

Whistle While I Work…

The lapse in updates was due to the overtime mentioned in my last post. The past two weeks have been stressful; I won’t lie! But, I was able to finish a drawing. It’s on the creepy side, something different, and something I had fun experimenting with! I like the technique I used for it and am getting faster with it.

Tensor, said the Tensor.

This is an ode both to Babylon 5 (namely, the Psi Corps/telepaths) and The Demolished Man by Alfred Bester. The woman, Cynthia Redding, in the drawing is the main character of a short fan fic I wrote. The words (thoughts) swirling about her are lyrics to a jingle in The Demolished Man:

Eight, sir; seven, sir;

Six, sir; five, sir;

Four, sir; three, sir;

Two, sir; one!

Tenser, said the Tensor.

Tenser, said the Tensor.

Tension, apprehension,

And dissension have begun.

Disclaimer: I do not own/did not create Babylon 5 or The Demolished Man

Here’s a link to a bigger version of it on my DA account.

Return to Tomorrow: January

It’s the end of the month; time to do a quick rundown of what I’ve been up to this month! Let’s see how my New Years Resolutions have been holding up. On that note, someone please remind me to do this at the end of every month! Hmm, maybe I should write myself a sticky note and pin it somewhere on my desk!

I’ve been working massive amounts of overtime for the past two weeks and will be working overtime for the two upcoming weeks. Hopefully I can keep up with my goals!

Let’s start this off with my resolutions:
Read at least 3 books (when I wrote these resolutions, I hadn’t read anything since June!)
Complete at least one art project per month

Projects completed:
Slytherin hat
Lisa Thompson
Knit scarf and hat — I did this as a gift for a one year old. I doubled up the yarn to make it extra warm (it was so soft!).

Books read:
1/3
The Demolished Man by Alfred Bester – I give it 5/5 stars!

The Trouble with Snow…

….When you don’t have a plow.

It makes it tough to get into work, but when all of the local businesses are closed, does it matter?

I finished my first project for 2011. Don’t mind the tribble…

I tried a slightly different technique with the hat to try and make it warmer, so far, so good! I doubled up the yarn. It was harder to work with, but I’m happy with the end result.

In other news, I linked my Deviant Art account to this blog so that you can see larger versions of my artwork. Blogger is wonderful, but the layouts look funny if you post pictures that are wider than 500 pixels.

The Year is 2011

Already?

I think things have finally slowed down…Let’s hope I didn’t just jinx myself by typing that! I’ve done a lot of knitting since the last time I posted an update. It was a bit crazy there for a while since I foolishly decided to knit a bunch of things in one month for gifts! Well, at least I know better now!

I had a great four day vacation last weekend and was able to complete a digital drawing I’ve wanted to do since July.

“Lisa Thompson”
800 x 800 px || 2.5 hours || digital

Believe it or not, there is a huge story behind Lisa Thompson that has nothing to do with Babylon 5 aside from the fact that in my head she’s a P7 telepath with the Psi Corps.

Back in July, one of the summer hires sat near me, and we’d make up characters, giving them their own voices. Lisa was my favorite out of my bunch, so I had sketched her out with a ball point pen, Psi Corps badge and all, and pinned her up on one of my cubical walls. I figured it was high time she got digital treatment. The original never left my wall, but since I see it everyday, it wasn’t hard to recreate her (digitally) from memory.
