Lucky Seven

I finally got around to updating my countdown graphic. I have finished seven illustrations so far. With working 40 hours a week, plus the art trades I do on the side, I normally get 1 illustration done every two weeks or so. I have next Friday off, so I am going to make good use of that day! It will be a great opportunity to make some headway with this project.

All this cryptic talk of these illustrations…I feel it is time to reveal what the project actually is!

I’m working on a children’s book that I intend to self-publish. I’ve written it and have already had someone take a look at the story.  They liked it and gave it their thumbs up. My goal is to finish most of the illustrations by the end of this year.

Here is a snippet from one of the drawings!

In other news…
‘Tis May in the lovely state of Georgia, and here comes the heat, seeping through the walls…I’ve held out as long as I can, but I think I may finally be turning that dollar guzzling A/C unit on tonight.

End of Month: April

It’s nearing the close of April. We are almost 5 months into 2012 now, and it is looking to be a good year so far. I’m still trying to find the perfect schedule for my illustrations so that I can complete this project in a timely manner. I’ve finished 7 so far (yes, I know I need to update my little counter!).  I have an extra day off coming in May (in addition to Memorial Day) that I plan to use wisely. The last time I had a scheduled day off, I finished 2 illustrations in one day!

I cannot wait until I’m ready to scan and format my project. It will be worth all the hard work to finally hold my own, illustrated children’s book in my hands!

Art in April

“Ariel’s Whimsical Dream” – watercolor, color pencil, and ink

** Ariel is (c) Studio Drowtales inc 2001-2012

This was done as an entry into an art contest hosted by Drowtales, a web comic I read daily.  I didn’t win, but I felt that the contest had an extremely friendly atmosphere. Because it was so welcoming, I am going to participate if they host more contests similar to this one!

“Speed Draw 130” – 100% digital

I was sick last weekend, and I didn’t want my precious 2 days off to be a complete waste, so I decided to try out the “speed paint” fad. I don’t think 1 hour and 30 minutes is very speedy, but here is the result. It was cut corner city! I am happy with how it turned out though.

Blogger
It looks like blogger has updated their posting process. While I love the ease of shrinking images now, I don’t love the fact that the text is wrapped with them. I had to hit “Enter” a bunch of times because using HTML to fix the issue wasn’t working. Hopefully the blog looks exactly like the preview on all computers *crosses fingers*

Books read in 2012
Ratings are out of five stars, *****

The Bell Jar by Plath, Sylvia – ***
The Iron Heel  by London, Jack – *** (It gets 3 because it was written in the early 1900s, and the author was depicting the future. I felt he deserved at least a 3 for that, but as far as the story goes? It gets **)
The Hunger Games by Collins, Suzanne – ***
Catching Fire by Collins, Suzanne – ***
Mockingjay by Collins, Suzanne – ***

I give The Hunger Games trilogy a **** as a whole.

End of Month: March!

Well, it’s a bit into April now…I’m late! Oh noes!

March began with an art trade. I must say that I am enjoying the art trades! The friend wrote me a fun, short story in return. I completed one illustration…I wish I would have done more, but I think I had burnt myself out in February on them. I need to find a happy medium that won’t burn me out, but still allows me to keep up a decent pace.

My goal for April is to complete two illustrations because one per month is just a snail crawl pace that I don’t want to repeat! If I finished only one per month, it would take nearly two years for me to complete the illustrations…No thanks!

Rudy – my friend’s character.

General Bester – one of my characters in the MMO, Star Trek Online. He is a joined trill who is about to kick some ass. Yes…I sort of modeled him after a certain Alfred Bester from Babylon 5!

Books read
I caved into the craze and bought The Hunger Games. It was only 6 bucks at Walmart, and my fellow literary snobs said it was a good read and nothing like Twilight. Much to my own shock, I loved the book, and, indeed, it is nothing like Twilight. I finished it a few days ago, so it doesn’t go towards the March book count. I plan to write a review and post my thoughts on my goodreads account.

Month in Review: February

I was under the weather last Sunday, so I had neglected to post in my blog. Here is February in review!

I’m up to 5 illustrations now (I haven’t updated the graphic yet *slaps wrist*), and I finished a digital art piece. March is here, and I’m already working on another art trade with someone else.

Sasha – An RP character of mine I drew just for fun. I need a break from the illustrations sometimes.

Books Read
None this month…Shame on me!

I don’t want to burn dinner, so I’ll leave this post at that.
