Vampires, Ballet Dancers, and a Caption

I have some exciting news to share! I put my illustrations on hold two weeks ago for a super secret mission…Cue some sort of suspenseful tune with a catchy beat!  Now, then, what did I do with my time?

I entered a drawing into a contest that was hosted by the talented Walter Koenig (Star Trek’s Chekov, Babylon 5’s Alfred Bester, and the author of Buck Alice and the Actor Robot).  He posted a caption on Twitter, and contestants were to draw a picture to go along with it.

Imagine my delight when I logged into Twitter on Sunday and saw this

I am thrilled, and I’m still kind of speechless!

As you can see from the screenshot, the winners get an autographed copy of the first issue of his latest comic, Things to Come. The second half of the prize is a copy of Things to Come in graphic novel format.  The graphic novel is available for pre-order on Amazon.com.

I’ve read one of his other original works, Buck Alice and the Actor Robot. It was an enjoyable mixture of wit and humanity at its core. His characters were quirky, flawed, and flat out entertaining.  The novel is a keeper!

Oh—before I forget! Here is the picture I had sent in!

I will flood this blog with pictures when the autograph comes in! I am still in shock (the good kind of shock) over all of this!

End of Month: July

It’s more like the beginning of August now…I got a little sidetracked, so this is running 5 days late!

There isn’t anything new going on, just the same old “I have too many ideas and not enough time!” going on.

Here’s my art for July!

Rogue Race – I have to say that I am really proud of this one! I am extremely happy with out it turned out. I’ve been wanting to draw him in this pose for a long time, and I finally got around to it!

The Corps is Your Friend! – This is a fun idea I had since last summer. I finally got around to drawing it! I had a blast with this picture!

A good ol’ fashion sketch on paper. It’s always good to go back to pencil and paper every once in a while. This picture was done as practice on different poses….What better model to use than Alfred Bester… 😉

I, Londo – He is the second one on the left (the one with the crazy hair and outfit).

End of Month: June

June was a creative month for me!

On top of what I’m about to post, I have completed 10 illustrations. I have the next week off, so I hope to make a great deal of progress with them.

Mishi Six – This is my Star Trek Online (STO) character. She’s a Vorta in the Federation with telekinetic powers. No…I cannot seem to resist the option to play a telepathic related character!

Alternate Demise – In this little alternate universe, Byron from Babylon 5 never becomes an angst ridden monologue spewing martyr; he never gets the chance! (Byron is the one hanging upside down with the long blonde hair).

The Rogues of Athena – A fake Psi Corps issue comic from Babylon 5. Jason Johnson stars in a harrowing battle with the Rogues of Athena!
Penguinor’s Demise – Yeah…it’s exactly what it looks like, ha ha! Don’t worry; he gets the girl!

End of Month: May

It’s already June! This year has flown by.

Here are three things I completed this month:

So Many Minds – This was a spur of the moment “speed draw” attempt. It took an hour, but I am really happy with it. And yes, of course I had to use the Psi Corps as speed drawing testing grounds!

New clothes – I took a pair of I don’t know whats and left over fabric from my Psi Corps skirt and made myself a tank top and a Star Trek TNG fashion top. I am working on a black shrug for the tank top so that I can wear it to work.

And now, for the grand finale!
Here’s ending the month of May with something I am extremely proud of!

Mind Games – A fake comic book cover to what would be the most epic comic book ever.  Alfred Bester (played by the talented Walter Koenig) is going to save the day because he is awesome like that.
